What ISO 17100:2015 Requires

ISO 17100:2015 is the international standard specifically for translation services. It sets requirements across four main areas.

Human Resources

Translators must demonstrate competence through recognized qualifications or equivalent professional experience in both the subject domain and the language combination. The standard distinguishes between translators (who produce the translation) and revisers (who independently check it) — and requires both to be involved in every project.

Translation Process

The standard defines a mandatory two-stage process: translation followed by independent revision. Revision is not optional — it is a requirement of the standard. The reviser must be a different person from the translator, and must check the translation against the source for accuracy, completeness, terminology consistency, and register.

Project Management

The standard requires documented project management processes covering client briefing, scope definition, resource allocation, delivery, and post-delivery procedures. Every project must have a named project manager responsible for its execution.

Technological Resources

The standard addresses the use of translation technology — translation memory systems, terminology management tools, and quality assurance software — and requires that their use is managed in a way that supports rather than compromises quality.

What ISO 9001:2015 Adds

ISO 9001:2015 covers the organizational infrastructure behind the translation service.

Management commitment to quality — documented quality policy and measurable objectives
Risk management — identification and mitigation of quality risks across all service areas
Supplier management — qualification and monitoring of translators and other suppliers
Customer feedback processes — systematic collection and response to client feedback
Continuous improvement — documented processes for identifying and implementing improvements
Internal audit program — regular internal review of quality system effectiveness

Our Certification History

2008
ISO 9001:2000 — First Certification

We first achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification, audited by TÜV NORD — one of Europe's most respected certification bodies. This established our formal quality management framework.

Subsequent years
ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015

We upgraded to ISO 9001:2015 when the standard was revised, and achieved ISO 17100:2015 certification when the translation-specific standard was introduced — replacing the earlier EN 15038 standard.

Today
Audited by Certa-Nova

Our certifications are currently maintained and audited by Certa-Nova, with annual surveillance audits and full recertification every three years — each of which verifies that our quality management system continues to meet the requirements of the standards in practice.
