Software localization is not the same as document translation. Interface strings, error messages, and embedded documentation carry constraints that a prose translator never encounters - character limits, placeholder variables, plural rules, and a build process that has to accept the file back.

The difference

What makes software and technology translation different

The problems that decide whether this work succeeds or has to be done twice.

Interface strings are not sentences

Strings assembled from fragments - "Delete " + item + "?" - work in English and break in most other languages. Slavic languages need three or four plural forms where English needs two; agglutinative languages attach case suffixes to the inserted noun; German and Spanish need gender agreement with a word the code does not know.

The fix belongs in the source, and we raise it before translation rather than delivering something that is wrong in nine locales at once.

Context is invisible in a string file

The word Open can be a button verb or a status adjective, and the two translate differently in almost every language. Given a bare key-value file a translator has to guess, and a wrong guess in a UI is visible to every user on every screen. We ask for screenshots, context keys or an in-context review pass rather than returning a plausible guess.

Fixed-width buttons and menu labels sized for English will break or leave holes. Pseudo-localization before translation exposes exactly which strings will fail, which is far cheaper than finding them in QA on nine builds.

Which file formats can you work with?

The usual localization formats - JSON, PO/POT, XLIFF, RESX, .strings, YAML and others - handled natively so placeholders and markup are protected rather than translated by accident. Send a sample of anything custom and we will confirm compatibility before quoting.

Can you work directly in our repository?

Yes. Pulling from and pushing to a branch keeps the string files as the single source of truth and removes the manual export-import step where most localization errors originate. Tell us your setup and we will agree the workflow before the first sprint.

Do you offer in-context review?

Yes, and for user-facing interfaces we recommend it. A linguist seeing strings in place catches truncation, wrong-register button labels and mismatched terminology that no string-level review can find.
