What the difference means in practice

Translation replaces text in one language with another. Localization goes further - so the target-language version behaves exactly as the original, for users who may never know it was built in another language.

A leading IT services provider for the aviation and air transport industry engaged us to localize a complete enterprise management system and all associated documentation - several million words across a complex file structure, delivered across multiple languages over several months.

Safety equipment · since 2006

A French manufacturer of workplace safety equipment with subsidiaries throughout Europe, Asia and South America commissioned a similarly scaled localization of their software platform and documentation suite.

Choosing the right CMS for a multilingual website

CMS selection has significant long-term localization implications. A system without a reliable multilingual module makes every future update more expensive and time-consuming than it needs to be. Our recommendation: choose a CMS with a proven multilingual module before you build.

WordPress → WPML (most robust) Joomla → JoomFish Drupal → strong built-in support

The right choice depends on scale - a 30-product site and a 40-country e-commerce platform have fundamentally different requirements, and over-engineering either way creates problems. We are happy to advise based on your specific situation.
