Suppliers of hazardous substances and mixtures must provide an SDS in the official language(s) of the EU member state(s) where the product is placed on the market. This is a legal obligation - not a commercial preference. For a chemical product distributed across all EU member states, SDS in all 24 EU official languages may be required.
The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) provides the international framework for SDS content and structure. EU CLP implements GHS in the European Union. For export markets outside the EU, GHS-aligned SDS may be required in the format and language of the importing country.
It requires translators who understand chemical safety terminology in both the source and target language, and who are familiar with the regulated structure of SDS documents.
Our SDS translators have professional backgrounds in chemistry, industrial safety, or regulated chemical documentation - alongside their language qualifications. We do not assign SDS projects to general translators.
We translate SDS and MSDS documents across all major European language combinations and selected non-European directions:
For Hungarian-source SDS translation into Slovak, Romanian, and Slovenian - the most common Central European direction for chemical products manufactured in Hungary and distributed across the region - we are particularly well resourced.
Every update to an SDS creates a translation requirement.
Chemical products are updated - formulations change, regulatory requirements are revised, new hazard classifications are applied.
For clients with recurring SDS translation needs, we maintain translation memories specific to their product range and chemical terminology. When an SDS is updated, only changed sections require new translation - unchanged approved content is reused from the TM. This reduces both cost and turnaround time for version updates, and ensures that updated SDS documents remain consistent with previously approved language.
For clients with large product ranges requiring SDS in multiple languages, we can coordinate the full language program from a single workflow - consistent terminology across all language versions, parallel delivery, and a single project management contact.
Send us your SDS or MSDS documents, tell us the target language(s), and we will prepare a detailed proposal - including pricing, turnaround time, and any version management options for ongoing programs.
Send us your documents and target languages - many SDS can be completed same-day.
